Giorgio Armani is planning to travel to Beijing and stage a major event in the city on May 28.

While details are still under wraps, it will mark and celebrate the designer’s more than decade-long presence in China. Armani’s first signature boutique opened in Beijing in 1998.
The designer has an established business in the region. In Greater China, the company currently has 13 Giorgio Armani boutiques, 51 Emporio Armani stores, 62 Armani Collezioni stores, 31 AJ Armani Jeans stores, seven Armani Junior stores, 33 A|X Armani Exchange stores and six Armani Casa stores in 43 cities.
While company’s 2010 financial figures are not yet available, in 2009, sales in China jumped 32 percent and, on the release of the firm’s results last July, deputy chairman John Hooks predicted that China would grow “even more” in 2010.
The designer, who has often turned to the East for inspiration for his collections, late last year launched an Emporio Armani online store in China, operated by Italian online retailer Yoox, becoming the first Western fashion brand to open an official e-commerce site in the country. The venture marked the growing importance of the Chinese online market.
