PARIS — One of the biggest events of Paris Fashion Week — Alexander Wang’s debut at Balenciaga — will occur on a small scale.

Considering it an “introductory season,” the French fashion house told WWD it would unveil the fall collection “in an intimate atmosphere” and a “salon-style format.”

Balenciaga declined to elaborate on its presentation, scheduled for 9:15 a.m. on Feb. 28 at a still-to-be-revealed venue.

It is understood the clothes will be shown on models but in front of a smaller-than-usual audience.

In recent years, Balenciaga has typically held a runway show at the Crillon hotel or in its showrooms on Rue Cassette.

Wang was named creative director of Balenciaga in December, marking a new chapter for a house founded in 1919 and controlled since 2001 by luxury-and-sporting-goods conglomerate PPR.

One of New York’s rising fashion stars, Wang succeeded Nicolas Ghesquière, who exited Balenciaga after a 15-year tenure that made the show one of the hottest tickets in Paris, and the label a watchword for directional fashion.

An ability to project the brand into a new stage of development, bring additional modernity, and understand the technical culture and craftsmanship of the house were among attributes Balenciaga sought in finding its new designer.

Wang’s privately held fashion house will remain a separate entity from Balenciaga. He established his label in 2005 and has rapidly built a global following for his edgy T-shirts, studded handbags and sleek-and-modern designer clothes for women and men. He showed the fall collection for his own label last weekend in New York.
