PARIS — The inimitable style of CocoRosie, the oddball musical sister act, will be hitting the catwalk soon. The helium-voiced half of the globe-trotting experimental pop duo, 25-year-old Bianca Casady, plans to launch her own fashion label during New York Fashion Week in September.
The songstress, sporting her signature fake mustache — courtesy of a wobbly stroke of a blue eyeliner pencil — revealed her design ambitions at her new Parisian art-meets-fashion space, Mad Vicky's Tea Gallery. The American siblings plan to inaugurate it with a tea party Sunday.
As for Casady's forthcoming collection, "Let's just say it will be clothing from the relics of humanity," muses the singer, her eyes framed by star-shaped clown tears in blue glitter. "It will be a sizeless, genderless line," she explains, adding, on a sisterly note. Her own pick-and-mix style is sure to guide her. "I'm kind of having a casual day," she says with a shrug about outfit: a boy's Batman T-shirt and tattered jeans under a floor-length tartan coat with a shrunken granny's dressing gown attached to it.
Her sister Sierra Casady — who mills around serving tea — is rolled into a teddy bear bed sheet that had been customized with a heavy metal skull motif and gathered into a golden bustier. Both outfits were made in collaboration with the artist Leif Ritchey.
"We've always been inspired by bedtime things, I suppose it comes from being vagabonds," says Bianca Casady, demonstrating how her outfit can be swiveled round to go to sleep in, the tartan hood used to shield her face.
Having made clothes since the age of 12, her favorite creation to date was an outfit made from silky laundry bags. In her late teens, the singer-cum-designer also dabbled in modeling, including walking for Comme des Garçons. "It was pretty thrilling," she recalls.
CocoRosie is fast becoming a household name among the fashion crowd, thanks to a string of high-profile fashion gigs, including Prada's recent bash during New York Fashion Week and Sonia Rykiel's store opening in Paris.
"For me, fashion is the first form of expression, even before music," she says.
Etro’s show, titled “The Tree of Life,” was a celebration of the house’s 50th anniversary. “My father founded the company in 1968, which was the year of counterculture and psychedelia. It’s really a show that celebrates that and the paisley design of India and its origin,” said Veronica Etro. #wwdfashion #mfw #ss18 (📷: @delphineachard)
