NEW YORK — Brian Reyes is returning to fashion — this time designing for Tse Cashmere.

The luxury knitwear label tapped Reyes as creative consultant. Reyes is already working on the brand’s 2012 pre-fall lineup, which will be unveiled in November, and has been confirmed to consult on the fall 2012 collection as well.

Reyes started delving into the brand’s archives about six weeks ago. “For five years, when someone asked me what other brands I admired and loved were, Tse was in the top three,” Reyes told WWD. “It’s serendipitous that it came together this way. It’s exciting for me to enter new territory and bring what I love about fashion and print to Tse.”

Reyes is the latest in a line of talent to collaborate with Tse. Past designers included Jason Wu, Tess Giberson, Narciso Rodriguez, Victor Alfaro, Hussein Chalayan and Richard Chai.

For Reyes, the consulting gig also marks the return to fashion after a yearlong absence during which he traveled to such places as Patagonia “with a backpack…to be inspired by nature.”

Reyes launched his own, namesake collection with much hype in 2006, but shuttered it after the 2010 resort season. “If I pursue it again down the road, it will be a different business structure,” he said.

In addition to working on the knits, Reyes hopes to further Tse’s woven business. “It’s known for being a strong knit house, and that will always remain very true to what we do here,” he said, “but I am also versed in woven’s, and we will bring more of that category into the DNA of the brand.

“It’s still in the research phase, but it’s nice to step out of my own element,” Reyes added. “Tse has so many resources, it’s almost like a laboratory. It’s great for the creative process.”
