After celebrations in cities such as Singapore, Los Angeles, Seoul and Rio de Janeiro, the Calvin Klein Inc. traveling show is about to hit the road again, this time to Shanghai.
Next week, CKI creative directors Francisco Costa, Italo Zucchelli and Kevin Carrigan, and president and chief executive officer Tom Murry will head to the Chinese metropolis to host an event there on April 16. The evening will include a runway show that will bring together an assortment of fall merchandise, including apparel and accessories, from Calvin Klein Collection, ck Calvin Klein and Calvin Klein Jeans — the first show of its kind since 1994. The show, at former textile factory Bund 1919, is expected to feature more than 70 models from around the world, with separate vignettes planned for each of the brands.
“China is a very important part of our overall global strategy and it’s importance grows daily,” Murry said. “The sheer magnitude of the marketplace is becoming increasingly more influential, and though Korea and Japan have been key markets in Asia for our brand portfolio, we anticipate that China will become our number-one country in Asia this year. We will open approximately 15 more free-standing stores this year.”
CKI already has a strong retail presence in China. Today, there are 100 branded, freestanding stores in China. There are 13 such stores in Shanghai: two for ck Calvin Klein ready-to-wear, six for Calvin Klein Jeans, and five for Calvin Klein Underwear.
The company is also opening a freestanding Calvin Klein Collection boutique at Plaza 66 in Shanghai this May. The store concept, at about 1,400 square feet, was created by Enzo Manola and will be located on the second floor of the mall.
Thebrand also had an event of similar proportions in Shanghai four years ago.
Calvin Klein Jeans and Underwear face Eva Mendes will join the executives at the event. A slew of celebrities are also expected, including Ethan Ruan, the Taiwanese actor and model and Korean actress Soo Jung Lim.
The event will also serve as the launchpad for Calvin Klein X Underwear.

The murals are McCoy’s interpretation of a Christmas eve party, the idea of charity and the spirit of family. His third mural, pictured here, is the most personal. The image depicts McCoy’s grandparents and father in London’s Trafalgar Square in the Seventies. “My work often features lots of sentimental objects.” #wwdeye
