Italian luxury suitmaker Canali said last week it had taken a 49 percent stake in software firm Datafashion to help develop applications and management tools for the fashion and luxury goods sector.

“We are very satisfied with [the partnership], despite the general economic downturn,” Canali general manager Stefano Canali said without disclosing terms of the deal. “We wanted to support and give new lifeblood to a young and competitive industrial group in virtue of the quality of the IT solutions that we have had the privilege of experimenting with over the last 10 years.”

Datafashion president Pasquale Lambardi described Canali’s entry into the firm’s capital as “a powerful impulse from the point of view of a commercial revival.”

Other than Canali, Datafashion’s clients include Bulgari, Corneliani, Lanvin and Loro Piana.
