MILAN — Alessandro Dell’Acqua is the new creative director at Malo, replacing 6267 duo Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi, who went to Ferré last month.

Dell’Acqua’s appointment confirms a WWD report on April 3. His first collection will bow for spring 2009 with a fashion show in New York, where the house has been showing for four seasons.
When the 6267 duo took Malo’s creative reins in July 2006, their mission was to jazz up the brand while preserving its knitwear heritage. The firm believes Dell’Acqua will continue to interpret those design codes.
“We were looking for a creative director capable of keeping Malo on its path,” said Vittorio Notarpietro, chief executive officer of Malo SpA. “Dell’Acqua gives us a guarantee and consistency with the values and standards that have always marked this brand.”
The Naples-born Dell’Acqua said he is flattered to be given his new role. “I firmly believe in Malo’s projects and I am happy to bring my experience and dedication,” he said.
Dell’Acqua first appeared on the fashion scene in 1995 with the A A Milano collection that revolved around technical knitwear. A year later, he made his runway debut with a namesake line of steamy boudoir looks in black and tan.
Over the last decade, he has refined his act with pieces that focus on precision tailoring, sensuality over sexiness and attention to details and embellishments. He also designs La Perla.
The IT Holding-owned Malo posted 2007 sales of $85 million and is carried in 400 sales points worldwide, in addition to the brand’s 30 namesake stores.
