OPEN SEASON: Dolce & Gabbana is looking for some variety, from city to city. Domenico Dolce told WWD the company plans to open stores in several cities, including Rome, Tokyo, Paris and New York, all different from each other. “We are tired of seeing the same stores everywhere, all these designer stores, including ours, they look all the same,” said Stefano Gabbana, who highlighted how, with the company’s newest venue in Milan, he and Dolce were focused on “respecting the building and restoring its original identity.”
A store will open by November on New York’s Fifth Avenue, but that will be modeled after the designers’ “classic” blueprint, they said, followed by one in SoHo. “That will be completely different from any other unit,” said Gabbana.
The company’s latest Dolce & Gabbana boutique, located inside an Art Nouveau-style building on Milan’s Corso Venezia, covers 9,720 square feet and carries men’s and women’s apparel and accessories on the ground floor, while the first floor is entirely dedicated to a new children’s collection. There is also a makeup and fragrance boutique with a separate entrance, dotted with furniture from antique perfume shops on floors made of pink Portuguese marble. Overhead is a cubic chandelier composed of 165 drops of golden crystal.
The main floor boasts antique wooden floors while other decor elements include burgundy brocade panels; Giò Ponti light fixtures sourced from ocean liners, and furniture from the Twenties and Thirties, juxtaposed with ceramics from the Sicilian town of Caltagirone.
On the children’s floor, rails in Champagne-colored steel contrast with sturdy, lacquered wood dressers and antique desks, blackboards and toys. Ceremonial dresses are displayed in a room whose walls are covered in white damask.
“These collections continue to build on that vision, empowering differently abled adults to express themselves through fashion,” said @tommyhilfiger of his line of adaptive apparel, which launches today. The line consists of 37 men’s and 34 women’s styles based upon the pieces from the spring Tommy Hilfiger sportswear collection. #wwdnews
