Donna Karan’s three-story Manhattan flagship at 819 Madison Avenue (between 68th and 69th Streets) will close when the lease expires Aug. 31.
The 11,000-square-foot boutique, which opened in August 2001, features a Zen-like setting. It showcases a private garden with 50-foot stone walls, an imported bamboo forest and a black granite “river” of water that cut through the space from the inside. The windows flood each floor with natural light, and almost every space has a view of the garden below. The shop was appointed with a dramatic staircase, tall mirrors and flat screens.
The building has nearly 30 feet of glass frontage and double-height ceilings on the ground floor, along with a mezzanine and outdoor garden.
Karan’s boutique features the women’s Collection, accessories and home. The designer continues to have Collection stores in South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, Calif.; Americana Manhasset on Long Island; The Shops at Crystals in Las Vegas; London; Dubai; Kuwait City; Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Singapore; Shanghai, and Seoul.
“After careful consideration, the company has decided not to renew our Donna Karan Collection store lease at 819 Madison Avenue, which expires Aug. 31. At this time, we are exploring other opportunities for a space more reflective of the spirit of our brand today,” said a Donna Karan spokeswoman.
“I was touched by the fact that she lost her father, really before his time, and it was a real shock. She had two young children, she was married and she was expecting that she would have her own life for a good 25 years,” said Claire Foy about playing a young Queen Elizabeth in Netflix’s The Crown. “It transcends the genre that is you think of a sci-fi show — you don’t expect it to be so profound or emotionally riveting,” Evan Rachel Wood told WWD of her Emmy nominated role in Westworld. styled by @samanthamcmillen_stylist 📸 @emmanmontalvan #emmys2017 #wwdeye
