NEW YORK — Even in tough times like these, there is no shortage of talent looking to make an impact on fashion, accessories, retail, beauty and home.
On Jan. 29, Fashion Group International will once again tip its hat to emerging talent at the 12th Annual Rising Star Awards. Tory Burch, an award winner in 2005 for retail, will give the keynote address at the event, which recognizes up-and-coming designers and executives in women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, retail, accessories, fine jewelry, beauty and interior design.
This year, the nominees for women’s rtw are Gustavo Cadile; Christian Cota; Sue Stemp; Annebet Duvall & Stephanie Doucette for Doucette Duval; Ina Soltani; Michalyn Andrews for Trasteverine, and Yoon Chang and Je-Won Hwang for Whistle & Flute. For men’s apparel, they are Anthony Keegan for Commonwealth Utilities; Carlos Campos; Prince Williams 3rd for Prince Williams Designs, and Michael Leen, Matteo Gottardi and Hamid Johannes Mahmood for Operations.
Accessories finalists are Eileen Shields; Natalia Barbieri and Jennifer Portman of Bionda Castana; Stephanie Owen of Elizabeth Cole Jewelry; Claudia, Laura and Alejandra Laviada of Pantera, and Satu and Celeste Greenberg of Tuleste Market, LLC. For fine jewelry, they are Ivanka Trump, Ariane Zurcher of Ariane Zurcher Jewelry; Darcy Miro for Darcy Miro Metals Shop; Danielle and Jodie Snyder for Dannijo, and Stephanie Albertson for Stephanie Albertson Jewelry LLC.
Fashion Group’s retail finalists are Alexis Maybank for Gilt Groupe; Alexandra Adame and Nikki Fontanella for The Dressing Room Boutique & Bar, Hicham Benmira and Brian Cousins for Hollander & Lexer.
In beauty, the fragrance corporate nominees are Marypierre Julien for Givaudan Fragrances; Katie Lucas for Avon Products Inc.; Juliette Karagueuzoglou for International Flavors & Fragrances, and Julie Birns for Prescriptives/the Estée Lauder Cos. Inc. Beauty’s fragrance entrepreneur finalists are Cathy Gins for Aromawear LLC; Janet League-Katzin for Sphatika International LLC, Jessica Dunne for Ellie D Parfume; Tom Wilscam for Hommage, and Gerd Schwarzkopf for PHCP Inc., Professional Hair Care Products/Mensgroom.
In the home and interior design category, nominees are Claudia Kalis for CK Designs; Jaimie Chew for J. Chew Porcelain, and Wayne Ludlum for Vestalife.
Presenters include Origins’ Jane Lauder for fragrance entrepreneur; In Style’s Amy Synott for fragrance corporate; Chris Madden for home and interior design; Biba founder Barbara Hulanicki for retail, and Henri Bendel’s vice president and fashion director Ann Watson for accessories.
