Jean Paul Gaultier Retrospective Heading to Grand Palais

The exhibition tracing the career of the fashion maverick is to arrive in Paris in April 2015.

PARIS — The blockbuster Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition — already seen by more than a million people in seven cities — will arrive in the couturier’s hometown in April 2015 for a four-month residency at the Grand Palais.

“The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk” is currently on display at the Brooklyn Museum in New York through Feb. 23 and is scheduled to open April 9 at the Barbican in London.

Initiated by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in 2011, the multi-media retrospective has also been mounted in museums in Dallas, San Francisco, Madrid, Rotterdam and Stockholm, and is scheduled for a stop in Melbourne before arriving in the French capital.

Gaultier is to announce the Paris project at his couture show in Paris today.

The exhibition spans couture and ready-to-wear ensembles from 1970 through 2013, including stage costumes like Madonna’s original cone-bra bustiers.

It also features film footage, fashion videos, sketches, television shows and other artifacts from the Gaultier archive.
