PARIS — Giambattista Valli has joined a growing band of designers saying "I do" to bridalwear.
"I'm getting married!" joked the designer at an exclusive preview of his new, relatively classic, wedding line here. A surge in requests, including from the just-married Clementina Montezemolo, prompted the line's creation, he said.
"It's dedicated to my friends," said Valli, gesturing to the gowns' eclectic personalities, from a bell-shaped bustier dress cascading with ruffles to an elegant, hand-pleated V-neck gown. Available in classic ivory shades or the house's seasonal palette, the line's hand-crinkled bustier gown has more of a hippie-chic beach wedding vibe about it, while one neighboring Audrey Hepburn-style dress, with pronounced hips, evokes a retro ballgown.
Timed with the house's cruise delivery, the collection will hit stores in November. Ruffled stoles and mink and cashmere cardigans have also been developed for the line, which retails from $11,000 to $16,000.
