Giles Deacon Preps for First Show in Italy

London-based designer Giles Deacon will show his Giles collection in Italy for the first time next year.

MILAN — London-based designer Giles Deacon will show his Giles collection in Italy for the first time next year, as special guest of the Pitti W-Woman Precollection exhibition in Florence.

A spokeswoman for Castor Srl, the Italian clothing manufacturer that produces Deacon’s ready-to-wear line, said the designer is still defining the format of the event. Deacon follows Diane von Furstenberg, Giambattista Valli and Proenza Schouler as featured guests of Pitti W.

The fifth edition of the exhibition, which runs concurrently with men’s fair Pitti Uomo, will take place Jan. 12 to 15. Since its launch in January 2008, Pitti W has been expanding its scope.

A graduate of Central Saint Martins, Deacon launched the Giles line in February 2004 after working at Bottega Veneta and Gucci. Named Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards in 2006, Deacon is known for his strong tailoring, whimsical touches and pop culture references. His manufacturing deal with Castor last spring fits in with the designer’s goal to develop the brand internationally. Earlier this month, Deacon showed his spring-summer 2010 collection for the first time during Paris Fashion Week as the winner of a 2009 ANDAM award bestowed by France’s National Association for the Development of the Fashion Arts. Also a first for Deacon, the designer presented a pre-collection in June with Castor.

The Mantova, Italy-based firm launched and produced until last year the 6267 line designed by Gianfranco Ferré creative directors Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi, which showed at the first Pitti W edition. Castor makes prototypes for such companies as Chanel, Aquascutum and Valentino.

Deacon is also chief designer at Fay, owned by Tod’s Group, and known for its high-end outerwear with hook closures. Over the past four seasons, Deacon has evolved Fay into a more international brand with a sexier and more feminine appeal.
