CANNES, France — With the Cannes Film Festival in full swing, the Giorgio Armani Group tonight will fete the opening of its first Giorgio Armani boutique here, marking the brand’s fourth store in France, with a cocktail party hosted by Roberta Armani.
Located in a courtyard space on the city’s famed Croisette and fronted by a large private terrace, the site is also home to an Armani/Caffè, which is connected to the store by sliding glass doors but operates in an independent space.
With a curved, teak-topped counter, leatherette-covered walls and Armani/Casa director’s chairs in natural teak and customized fabrics, the café serves breakfast, lunch and aperitivo and specializes in cold Italian dishes, with a menu devised by Soriano Meloni, executive chef of the Giorgio Armani Group in Milan.
Housing the complete Giorgio Armani collection for men and women, the new boutique has a women’s wear and accessories floor spread across three levels connected by small staircases with glass and Plexiglas banisters, leading from the entrance through to a spacious, light-filled room at the back of the building. The men’s collections and dressing rooms are housed downstairs, accessible by a sculptural staircase, along with a Giorgio Armani made-to-measure private room.
The store, Armani/Caffè and terrace combined measure about 6,500 square feet, with the store occupying about 3,800 square feet. Retail neighbors include Céline and Dolce & Gabbana.
“Cannes has a unique charm. It’s a dynamic and lively city, frequented by an international public, the ideal setting for the new boutique and to inaugurate the world’s first Armani/Caffè, spaces that perfectly express my concept of lifestyle and that join the modernity and style of this location,” the designer said.
Designed by Armani with his team of architects, the store’s palette is based on the house’s signature greige shade, combining light gray “silk georgette” natural stone floors and marmorino plaster walls with a silver sheen. Fixtures include tables in black glass and painted teak.
A women’s accessories space dedicated to bags and shoes is at the store’s entrance, delineated by a border of bamboo-inspired slats set with floating glass shelves. Fragrances, eyewear and daywear are presented in the surrounding entrance area.
Armani operates four Emporio Armani stores in France; one Armani Collezioni store; one Armani/Casa unit, and one Emporio Armani Caffè. The group’s own-brand distribution network comprises a total of 2,203 stores in 46 countries.
Also in Cannes, Armani is to present today the latest edition of its #armanitweettalks series, consisting of live discussions on relevant topics between fashion industry figures, which are broadcast on Twitter. Fashion and film will serve as the theme, with the actor and film producer Zachary Quinto among the panelists.
“What he has done at Vuitton is really exceptional,” said @gameofthrones’ actress Gwendoline Christie on @mrkimjones’ final show for @louisvuitton. “He has rebooted luxury in terms of making it commercial, viable and contemporary. And most importantly artistic. He has never compromised his artistic vision for the sake of commodity.” (📷: @zefashioninsider)
