Italian fashion designers are out to conquer the home as well as the runway with their signature styles, whether it’s a festival of happy colors, evocative prints, sleek shapes or muted textiles. Here, WWDScoop takes a look at what some of them will present at the Salone del Mobile.
Versace: A sinuous yet sleek chaise longue is the focal point of the new Versace Home Collection. Re-creating the houses’ iconic Greek motif, the basic structure is crafted with a special titanium alloy. The seat of the piece highlights a basketweave made by artisans in butter-soft leather.
Missoni: Rosita Missoni channeled her passion for the outdoors into the latest Missoni Home Collection, which revolves around a vivid tulip print, blown up and sometimes mixed and matched with polkadots, mushrooms, butterflies and stripes. The pattern appears on bedspreads, bath linens, tables, panels, chairs, sofas, lamps and curtains. Meanwhile, Missoni keeps furniture shapes fluid and linear. “The idea was to meld atmospheres from outdoors and indoors with color combinations of sun-drenched hues with more somber ones,” she explains. “The home should be happy, a harmony of shapes to greet people and give positive messages.” Fendi Casa: The offerings are clean and lean with an emphasis on graphic sofas and beds. Filippo, the new sofa, plays on contrasting textures like asphalt gray pleated silk velvet cushions on silver-flecked leather. The love seat displays classic capitonné workmanship in leather, enriched with chrome, gold and burnished silver vertical insets at the arms. And for the bedroom the Roman house offers The Wall, an apt name for a high quilted headrest available in silk satin or leather with a matching bedspread.

As one of the most recognizable models in the world, Christy Turlington Burns has an insider’s view of the fashion industry and the allegations of sexual harassment swirling around it. “I can say that harassment and mistreatment have always been widely known and tolerated in the industry. The industry is surrounded by predators who thrive on the constant rejection and loneliness so many of us have experiences at some point in our careers,” Turlington told WWD, along with her suggestions for how the modeling world should protect younger women and men. 24-year-old Jean Prounis is redefining the rules of jewelry. Formerly a studio assistant to Jemima Kirke and a design apprentice at Ghuran, she focuses on handcrafted subtleties and ancient goldsmithing techniques. “There was a really sterile feel in the environment and I wanted to have jewelry with character that shapes how you wear it everyday,” Prounis said. Each piece is hand made in New York, either by Prounis or three other jewelers in the district. #wwdfashion
