- OSCAR'S GOLD STAR: Oscar de la Renta will be honored Saturday in The Great Hall of the City College of New York to celebrate the CUNY Dominican Studies Institute's 15th anniversary. The event will also salute the school's 35,000-plus Dominican alumni, with about 500 CUNY graduates of Dominican descent expected to attend. The Dominican de la Renta will be singled out for his achievements and contributions to the Dominican people and the world at large. One way he has given back to his homeland is by building two schools that incorporate orphanages and day care centers. In addition, de la Renta serves on the boards of The Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall, Thirteen/WNET, UNICEF, The Americas Society and The Spanish Institute.
- WEAR ME A DREAM: Wear Me Apparel Corp., which does business as Kids Headquarters, has completed its acquisition of Dream Apparel Group. Dream markets children's sleepwear under various licensed brands — Disney, NASCAR, Hershey, and Tootsie Roll — and company-owned trademarks such as Dream Apparel, PJ & Me and Dream Xtreme. Details such as purchase price were not available. Dream founders Karen and Paul Leopold will continue with the business, working under the Kids umbrella with Andrew Azoulay, who manages Kids' sleepwear operation. Wear Me's chairman and chief executive officer, Artie Rabin, was recently honored at the KIDS/Fashion Delivers annual charitable gala event last month. Marketing Management Group was the financial advisor to Wear Me Apparel.
