Calvin Klein Collection’s Italo Zucchelli had scant time to celebrate after accepting the CFDA’s Menswear Designer of The Year Award on Monday night, an award he shared with Scott Sternberg of Band of Outsiders. There was, after all, a show to put on in Milan — and one that might now be viewed with extra interest. “The collection is about transparency,” said Zucchelli. “It’s very optimistic, light, easy, colorful, layered, athletic and sexy.”
As always, the collection will reflect the designer’s interest in textile technology and his signature remixing of classic American sportswear. If the CFDA award brings additional scrutiny or pressure, Zucchelli accepts it with characteristic serenity. “People may expect more from me, but I always expect more from myself.”
