NEW YORK — It was frocks around the block at a party hosted by Derek Lam and eBay on Tuesday night to celebrate the launch of the designer’s first crowdsourced collection, Derek Lam + eBay.
Lam presented the collection at New York Fashion Week in February and the 16 dresses were displayed on eBay, where consumers could vote for their favorites. The five winners were revealed in March. The public chose a black evening gown, a shift with a peplum back detail, a denim sundress and long and short versions of a floral chiffon dress. In addition, eBay on Tuesday said a T-shirt dress is being offered exclusively through the eBay Fashion iPhone app. The black silk and dahlia silk poplin styles that have been added to the collection are $125. Steve Yankovich, vice president of mobile at eBay, said the T-shirt dress is creating a buzz. “EBay did $2 billion in mobile sales last year,” he said. “This year, it will be more than $4 billion. EBay’s made it easier to list sales on its mobile app, so you can buy something and flip something else.”
