NEW YORK — Another key fashion week venue could be emerging to share the spotlight with the Bryant Park tents in September.

MAC Cosmetics, which is owned by the Estée Lauder Cos. Inc., is said to be in talks to become a lead sponsor for runway shows and presentations at Milk Studios during New York Fashion Week, industry sources said.

Although details about the new venture could not be learned, the cosmetics firm is said to be in negotiations with vanguard designers to present their collections in the venue at 450 West 15th Street here.

Many designers already are vying for fashion week time slots for their September runway shows. It is expected there will be more shows and presentations than last season.

Milk Studios has long been a go-to location for shows. Calvin Klein showed there for eight years before creating its own event space in 2006, and over the years, designers and labels such as Proenza Schouler, Doo.Ri and Derek Lam have used the venue to present their collections.

MAC is expected to be working with IMG Fashion, producer of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, and the Council of Fashion Designers of America to make sure its sponsored shows work within the fashion week calendar.

A spokesman for MAC declined comment, saying, “We look forward to making an exciting announcement soon.”

MAC has been a sponsor of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week for several seasons. Sources said MAC plans to continue its commitment to the tents, where a sponsorship can typically include hospitality areas and other services.
