NEW YORK — Michael Kors and Gwyneth Paltrow have known each other for nearly two decades. Now they are joining forces with a special holiday collaboration for Paltrow’s Goop site.

The lineup includes several exclusive limited-edition ready-to-wear pieces created specifically for Goop, as well as additional accessories items from Kors’ collections handpicked by the designer and the Oscar-winning actress.
“Michael’s clothes are gorgeous, staple, American classics that never go out of style,” Paltrow said. “I thought it would be wonderful to reinvent some of my favorite vintage Michael Kors looks that I have kept for years, that I wear over and over.”
Paltrow has lately been reaching out to her designer friends for some TLC. In September, she unveiled another such collaboration with Stella McCartney. Over the years, she has been known to also wear some of Kors’ creations, most memorably last October, when she donned a sexy black cutout number by the designer at the God’s Love We Deliver annual Golden Heart Awards.
“I have always been intrigued by the idea of someone who can juggle all the balls in the air and do it with great style, make it look easy, be smart and have a sense of humor,” Kors told WWD of Paltrow. “We always said, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if some time, we could do something together, in whatever way.’ We started talking about the idea that when you buy something, you often don’t know that it’s going to turn out to be your favorite piece. Inevitably designers don’t make it again and, she said, ‘It could drive you crazy.’”
The idea became the genesis of the collaboration, based on some of Paltrow’s favorite Kors pieces in her closet that are tailored to her busy life with a casual attitude. Among them is a cashmere cape Paltrow got right after giving birth to daughter Apple; a peacoat, and a peplum turtleneck. Each piece has been updated to the times; i.e. both cape and turtleneck are rendered in lighter weights for more transitional climates. As for the peacoat, “We both love idea of shine and how it can really change something. We felt it’s time for the peacoat to have a little bit of glamour with these very modernist metallic buttons,” said Kors.
The accessories offering is hand selected by Paltrow and the designer. “The mix of prices is very varied,” he noted. “We have a pendant on a leather cord for $125, and the big cashmere cape is $2,500. It’s how I believe women I know who are chic want to dress.”
The designer admitted he is quite a Goop fan. “When I look at anything that she is cooking or just talking about food, it turns into food porn for me,” Kors said. “At best I can make about five things. I think she will try to convince me I can add a sixth or a seventh to my repertoire.”
