PARIS — Paco Rabanne has appointed rising French designer Julien Dossena as creative director for women’s wear. Dossena, who will also oversee accessories, will present his first collection for the house on Sept. 26 during Paris Fashion Week.

The 30-year-old becomes the third designer in three years to take the helm of the brand, owned by Barcelona-based Puig, which revived Rabanne’s dormant fashion business in 2011.

“We are delighted to welcome Julien Dossena. His radical and innovative interpretation of the Paco Rabanne style will allow us to firmly establish our collections in the world of the most avant-garde and desirable brands on the market,” the house said.

A graduate of La Cambre in Brussels, Dossena won the 1.2.3 prize at the International Festival of Fashion and Photography in Hyères in 2006. From 2008 to 2012, he was a senior designer in the Balenciaga studio, working closely with former creative director Nicolas Ghesquière.

Dossena joined Paco Rabanne in early 2013 to help design the label’s fall ready-to-wear collection, shown in March, under former creative director Lydia Maurer. In parallel, he recently launched his own rtw label, Atto, together with his design partners Lion Blau and Florent Buonomano.

“I’m delighted to be joining this house, which boasts a unique heritage,” Dossena said. “I have always been fascinated by the forward-thinking attitude and innovative approach distinct to Paco Rabanne. It’s now a great honor to be appointed its creative director.”

Founder Paco Rabanne defined the Sixties Space Age look with his minidresses made from materials such as plastic and chain mail.

The company, known for best-selling fragrances including men’s scent 1 Million and the Black XS range, brought on board Indian designer Manish Arora in February 2011 to spearhead the revival of its fashion division. Arora left in May 2012 after garnering mixed reviews.

Maurer was appointed in July 2012, but parted ways with the company after two seasons.
