MILAN — A new Palazzo Versace is to open in Macau, the first in Asia and the first five-star, designer-branded hotel in the former Portuguese colony.
Gianni Versace SpA and Sociedade de Jogos de Macau SA, or SJM, have inked an agreement to open a hotel within the latter’s casino resort in Cotai, Macau.
Additional information will be provided during a press conference scheduled on Sept. 5 at the Grand Lisboa Hotel in the Chinese city.
Gian Giacomo Ferraris, chief executive officer of Versace, pointed to the “experience and prestige” of SJM. “The hotel and interior-design sector are very important for us, as they are part of the history of our brand,” said Ferraris, underscoring Versace’s “specific know-how” in this division, citing other company projects in Australia and Dubai. “We are firmly engaged in developing this sector and, leveraging this period of strong development for Versace, we continue to evaluate new opportunities in various parts of the world.”
SJM, which is controlled by SJM Holding Ltd., is publicly listed in Hong Kong.
In 2000, a Palazzo Versace opened on Australia’s exclusive Gold Coast tourist strip of Queensland with Australian property developer Sunland Group Ltd. — a six-star hotel with 205 rooms and 72 condominiums decorated in typical Versace style, with neoclassical furniture, fountains, statues and marble floors.
A Palazzo Versace is also expected to open in Dubai in the second half of 2014.

@kering_official is spinning off its stake in puma in an effort to focus on its luxury brands, the brand operator announced yesterday. “We are proud to have supported the turnaround of Puma, which now has unrivaled capabilities to take full advantage of the specific dynamics of its global markets and is poised to achieve substantial growth,” said François-Henri Pinault, Kering’s chief executive officer and chairman. The fashion world mourns for celebrated street style photographer, Nabile Quenum, who died at age 32 in Paris.
Quenum, creator of the fashion blog “J’ai Perdu Ma Veste,” was a fashion week fixture, and regularly shot for New York magazine’s The Cut, among other outlets, and brands such as Louis Vuitton, Moncler and Adidas.
