MILAN — Sergio Arreghini, Replay's creative director, died of a heart attack on June 23, the company said Thursday. He was 48.
Arreghini, who lived in Ponte di Piave, was in an ambulance en route to a hospital.
The late Claudio Buziol, president of Fashion Box Group, which produces the Replay denim and sportswear brand, appointed Arreghini designer of the experimental line We Are Replay in 2001. Last year, he was promoted to creative director of all the group's brands. Buziol died of a heart attack three years ago at the age of 47.
Born in 1960 in Pordenone, in northeastern Italy, Arreghini worked for Gruppo Finanziario Tessile in Turin until 1985, when he joined Benetton as product manager for its men's and women's collections. After 10 years, the designer moved to Belfe, where he was in charge of the active and jeanswear collections of the group, and later joined Stefanel as product and merchandising director.
As creative director at Replay, Arreghini was respectful of the brand's roots, often revisiting its original, historic designs with a contemporary edge. For fall 2008, the company launched its latest product in its Collectors line called Replay Maestro Denim: five-pocket jeans with leather details manually applied and dedicated to Buziol.
"There are 25 pieces inspired by the true American denim that charmed Claudio so much he decided to dedicate his life to this product," Arreghini said at the time.
In a statement, Replay praised Arreghini's "commitment, creativity and dedication to his work." Fashion Box said Arreghini's design team will continue to bring forward his work, adding that the "consolidated structure created over the years will surely allow the group to continue its expansion and development."
Arreghini is survived by his wife, Gloria; a daughter, Virginia; two sons, Rocco and Vittorio, his father and two brothers.

“It’s life, I’m going to face it,” @mingxi11 sighed. “I fell, but you know, I think the most important thing is that I get back up. I had the love, the help from my sister — the girl next to me Gizele [Oliveira] — she’s so nice. When I went backstage everybody was trying to comfort me like ‘Oh Ming, it’s OK.’ I’m really, really touched. I think it’s them who gave me the courage to go back on stage for the finale,” Xi told WWD of her fall at the @victoriassecret fashion show. “I just wanted to create this fully rounded character, but I do think what excited me most was just the opportunity to give a group of people representation that I feel needs it. I like to do characters in projects that stand for something and Karolina definitely does, so that was really exciting to me,” @ginnygardner says of her new role in @hulu’s “The Runaways.” Gardner plays Karolina Dean, a queer superhero, which is a rarity for @marvel.
