PARIS — Schiaparelli has named Marco Zanini its creative director and said it would unveil the Italian designer’s first collection next January during couture week here.

He is to be in charge of couture and what Schiaparelli is calling "pret- à-couture" collections, or high-end ready-to-wear.
The appointment comes some 16 months after Schiaparelli, owned by Diego Della Valle, chairman and chief executive officer of Tod’s Group, announced plans to revive the storied brand.
WWD first reported on April 16 that Zanini, who just wound up a five-year stint as the designer of Rochas, could be on his way to the storied brand.
Milan-born Zanini, who cut his teeth at Versace, also logged a two-year stint at Halston. He has also worked at Dolce & Gabbana and Lawrence Steele.
Headquartered on the Place Vendome, Schiaparelli invited Christian Lacroix to design a one-off collection that it exhibited during couture week in Paris last July, but did not offer for sale.
