Stella McCartney Wins Designer of the Year Award

She also walked away with the Designer Brand award at the British Fashion Awards in London.

LONDON — Stella McCartney scooped the top prize, Designer of the Year, at the British Fashion Awards Tuesday night at the Savoy Theatre. McCartney also walked away with the Designer Brand award, capping a year of accolades that included her creation of the Team GB uniforms for Britain’s 2012 Olympic athletes.

Salma Hayek presented McCartney with the designer award, while Amber Valletta gave her the brand one.  Other awards presenters included Valentino Garavani, who is town to open a retrospective of his couture designs at Somerset House; Zaha Hadid; Ronnie Wood; Princess Beatrice; British First Lady Samantha Cameron, and Ellen von Unwerth. Other winners included Sophie Hulme, J.W. Anderson and Jonathan Saunders for Emerging Talent in accessories; ready-to-wear, and men’s wear respectively; Roksanda Ilincic for Red Carpet; Nicholas Kirkwood for Accessory Designer, and Erdem Moralioglu for New Establishment. Professor Louise Wilson won the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator.

Kim Jones for Louis Vuitton walked away with Men’s Wear Designer while, as reported, Manolo Blahnik won for Outstanding Achievement in Fashion. Cara Delevingne won for Model, while Alexa Chung scooped the British Style Vodafone award. Harold Tillman won a special recognition award for his term as chairman of the British Fashion Council. He will step down at the end of the year.
