"It's a new breed to some extent," said designer Despina Papadopoulos about her clothing line, which fuses fashion with tech. Due to arrive in stores in September, the collection from Studio 5050 of Brooklyn incorporates electronics in whimsical ways. The Temperature Sweater displays the temperature in Celsius on one sleeve and in Fahrenheit on the other. The Masai Musical Dress plays music when the beads brush against the dress. And the Embrace Sweater lights up when someone hugs the wearer. Everything can be washed except batteries and speakers, which are removable. (Papadopoulos situated the speakers in a detachable collar.) Sweaters and hoodies will retail for about $400; the musical dress will cost $5,000. London's Digital Wellbeing Lab and Generate Design of Montreal have expressed interest in carrying the collection.
