PARIS — Tiffany & Co. said Monday it plans to open a European flagship on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées in Paris in 2014.
The 10,000-square-foot unit on the famed thoroughfare will be located in a corner townhouse at number 62, previously home to a Quick fast-food restaurant.
Rumors had been circulating for several months that Tiffany would join other luxury brands, including Cartier and Louis Vuitton, in the prime location, which has recently seen the arrival of a slew of American brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Abercrombie & Fitch and Banana Republic.
“This is a preeminent location that firmly places Tiffany & Co. on an international stage, in the heart of a city where people from all over the world come to visit and shop,” said Frederic Cumenal, executive vice president of Tiffany & Co.
Tiffany noted that its links with Paris stretch back to the 19th century, when it became the first American company to win an award for the excellence of its silverware at the Paris World’s Fair in 1867. The jewelry and silverware firm opened a store on Rue de la Paix here in 1999.
