The second edition of the three-day Cash & Rocket Tour — an event run by the Cash & Rocket women’s philanthropy organization — will kick off June 13 in Barcelona. Seventy women from the fashion, art, film, music and finance industries will drive red luxury vintage cars all the way to Rome, stopping in Cannes, Forte dei Marmi and Florence and raising funds for three African charity projects. On June 16, a gala dinner and charity auction in the Italian capital will further contribute to the cause.
Participants will include Valentino’s Maria Grazia Chiuri; sisters Margherita and Teresa Missoni; Delfina Delettrez Fendi; Patricia Arquette; Selita Ebanks; Charlotte Stockdale; Betony Vernon and Jodie Kidd.
“I’m rarely able to participate firsthand in charity events, but when [Cash & Rocket founder] Julie Brangstrup — the mother of six children — told me about the automotive women for women tour and the non-profits that will benefit from it, I did not hesitate to sign up and share this moment also with my daughter, Rachele,” said Chiuri. Valentino has dedicated two eyewear models to the tour and its participants: the bright red Vlogo and Rockstud sunglasses.
“I’m sure that the Cash & Rocket Tour will lead to new friendships among the 70 women involved and leave unforgettable memories, but our main goal is to raise funds for our projects in support of the associations Shine On Sierra Leone, OrphanAid Africa and Sumbandila,” said Brangstrup. “Last year we raised over $250,000 and this year the goal is to double that figure.”
Shine On Sierra Leone aims to improve people’s access to all levels of education, while OrphanAid Africa supports orphans and other vulnerable children in Ghana by providing health care, education and familyassistance. Sumbandila works to provide quality secondary education and tutoring services to underprivileged children in South Africa’s Limpopo province. Funds raised this year through the Cash & Rocket Tour will help build a school for 300 children in Sierra Leone and an assistance center for 100 families in Ghana, and will help pay for the secondary education of a group of children in South Africa.
The 2013 edition of the Cash & Rocket Tour is sponsored by Valentino, Loewe, Bentley, Veuve Cliquot, Roberto Cavalli and Maserati, among others.
