John Varvatos Enterprises, a division of VF Corp., laid off 12 people, or 4 percent of its workforce, at the end of April. The cuts, made in stores and across all areas of corporate, were a response to the current economic climate, and do not represent any strategic shift, said Donna Faircloth, vice president of marketing and corporate communications for John Varvatos. Last month, Converse said it would discontinue the three-year-old women’s line of the Converse by John Varvatos business, focusing on footwear and men’s wear. None of the layoffs at John Varvatos were related to that, Faircloth said.

"It's really hard sometimes. I think I have a reputation for being really tough and aggressive and pushy but I really am a very shy person who wants to be liked, and that's the conflict constantly. There's something that takes hold - I want people to like me, I don't want to be mean - but if I see something that just cries out to be answered, I go for it," says renowned NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell.
