LONDON —Life ’s a year-round beach for Heidi Gosman and Penny Klein.Not just because they run a one-stop holiday shop called Heidi Klein,but because they actually have a beach in their shop window, made with imported sand,two faux palm trees and a selection of sea shells.

“We had the sand flown in from Mauritius,”said Klein during an interview at the store in Notting Hill.”We thought if you ’re going to have sand in your hop window, then it may as well be the real thing rather than from a and- bag at a DIY store.”

The two friends opened the 1,600-square-foot tore in April of this year because of their frustration about not being able to find a bikini in the mid- dle of December.Now,the se- lection is vast.Priced between $33 and $255,Heidi Klein car- ries ome of the biggest brands in wimwear,including Chris- tian Dior,Cacharel,Melissa Odabash and Eres.Summer ac- cessories and weekend bags are also available from lines such as Allegra Hicks,Chloé and Bill Amberg.

“It occurred to the both of us that there was nowhere to go in London for a few holiday essentials from October to February,”Klein said.”Lots of people in London are away over the New Year ’s period and women don ’t want to think about buying bikinis for their winter holidays six months be- fore they go.”

Nor do they want to be the whitest on the beach.Heidi Klein ’s beauty spa,based at the end of the store,features a tan spraying mist.

“Because so many of our customers are women who panic buy and leave everything until the last minute,we want- ed to accommodate them with fast tanning,too,” Gosman said..

Pedicures,manicures,body scrubs and waxes are also of- fered at the spa.Although most- ly beachwear,the store also stocks a winter wardrobe with key items that include brightly colored sheepskin gilets,Dr. Zhivago-inspired hats and woolly panty and vest sets.

Klein and Gosman are more than aware of their customers ’ vacation habits.As for theirs, it ’s in-store.

“This place is great in the summer,”Klein said.”We like to unbathe in the window,it ’s the perfect sun trap.”
