At Phillip Lim Wednesday evening, hairstylist Odile Gilbert, who wanted to come up with something unexpected while working on behalf of Aveda, created a down do with a draped facet. About one third of the hair was pulled loosely up and across, then pinned in the back.
The rest of the hair was left down, neat, straight and tucked behind the ear. A bit of Aveda Air Control hairspray and Volumizing Tonic was used to polish the look, which was inspired by drapery in Lim’s fashion collection.
The makeup look at Phillip Lim featured wispy brows, which were drawn on, and a red lip. “The inspiration was the Eighties and the Thirties mixed together,” said Nars makeup artist Ayako. “The strong brow is Eighties and the red lip is Thirties. Together it’s modern and powerful — a woman with confidence.”
Ayako used a berry red lip shade called Fire Down below. Cheeks remained neutral, with just a touch of powder foundation from a big brush.
