MARINA DEL REY, Calif. — Speedo’s spring unveiling featured plenty of athletic maillots and spandex frog suits — the kind of second-skin uniforms that have long been part of an Olympian’s winning formula. Yet the brand also showed it can strike gold in the fashion game during a presentation for its global sales force July 13 at the Ritz-Carlton Marina Del Rey.

Offerings including sportswear, ran the gamut from a distressed Red Cross motif on its safety-orange and red lifeguard group to chic floral scribbles on a putty and black selection, which was shown on the runway paired with high heels and oversized shades.

There were wispy, sheer blouses and loose, sarong-style pants, and soft totes printed to match swimsuits, from a neutral leaf print to vibrant watercolor blues. Sexy track suits, board shorts and bucket hats hinted at the brand’s extension out of the water.
