NEW YORK — Fifties-inspired dresses for a black-tie event?

Sure, according to some of the Fashion Institute of Technology students attending The Alumni Star Salute on Feb. 4 at the Rainbow Room, which raised over $100,000 for student scholarships.

The event honored William H. Frake 3rd, senior concept designer at Blue Sky Studios; Alex Garfield, chief executive and president of Go Silk, and Amy Handkammer, vice president, product development and merchandising, at New Line Cinema.

Attendees included alumni and some current FIT students wearing dresses from designers such as Dior, BCBG Max Azria, Iceberg, Jil Sander, ABS by Allen Schwartz and Versace. Here, a sampling of styles reminiscent of the Fifties.

Corporate sponsors for the annual fundraiser were Silhouette, Dooney & Bourke, Garfield & Marks and GM Design Group.

In other news, model Naomi Sims will be honored Feb. 28 at the Fashion & Arts Xchange Black History Month event. It will take place in FIT’s Haft Auditorium and is coordinated with the school’s Diversity and Equal Education Opportunities program. Sims will be feted by Ford Models founder Eileen Ford and designer Calvin Klein.
