NEW YORK — The American Apparel and Footwear Association on Tuesday awarded its Friend of the Apparel and Footwear Industry Award to WWD.

“For the past 100 years, Women’s Wear Daily has kept the industry informed of major news, emerging trends and the latest fashions,” Killick Datta, chairman of AAFA and chief executive officer of International Brand Partners LLC, said Tuesday at the Union Club here. “The nature of our industry is extremely competitive. Women’s Wear Daily embraces that competitiveness and pushes us to be better. Women’s Wear Daily is often the launching pad for new and up-and-coming designers and chronicles the world of world-renowned fashion icons.”

Edward Nardoza, WWD’s editor in chief, accepted the award on behalf of the publication. Nardoza and AAFA president and ceo Kevin Burke traded stories from the podium about the occasional tensions that exist between trade associations and the publications that cover them.

“For the past century, Women’s Wear Daily has delivered important news into the hands of key decision makers that drive our industry forward,” said Burke, wishing WWD well “for its next 100 years of professional and comprehensive coverage.”
