NEW YORK — The Accessories Council’s annual March market party is typically the place for industry executives to schmooze and imbibe, and the only kind of competitive heat generated that night is from the bidding war for goods in the silent auction.
Themed “Fast Track to a Shopping Soiree,” last Tuesday’s party was no different.
“I’ve been outbid on a couple of things,” said Lavelle Olexa, senior vice president of fashion merchandising at Lord & Taylor, where the event was held. “It’s always a wonderful opportunity to have the industry in our store. Our accessories business has been strong, so it’s a celebratory time.”
Forty-three firms donated goods to benefit the Accessories Council, including Coach, Burberry, Adrienne Landau, Kenneth Jay Lane, Via Spiga, Hollywould, Wolford, Lulu Guinness and Cole Haan. The event was sponsored by L&T, Safilo Group, Victoria & Co. and Nine West.
“I come here to shop — you get the best bargains,” said designer Richard Graziano, checking out the goods offered in the silent auction.
Other guests included Rhonda Brown, president and ceo of Jones Apparel Group’s footwear, accessories and retail division, designers Mary Ann Restivo and Carlos Falchi.
Even Sheila Block, executive director of the Council, couldn’t keep her eyes off the auction goods. Was she allowed to bid as the event’s host? “I am tempted to use a pseudonym, but I don’t,” she quipped. “I let our guests get the great buys.”
“These collections continue to build on that vision, empowering differently abled adults to express themselves through fashion,” said @tommyhilfiger of his line of adaptive apparel, which launches today. The line consists of 37 men’s and 34 women’s styles based upon the pieces from the spring Tommy Hilfiger sportswear collection. #wwdnews
