It’s been a while since gloves have been in the spotlight, but for fall and holiday, the category is staging a huge comeback. While gloves are always key items in cold-weather areas, they have gotten spruced up and made over with fashion touches that go far beyond keeping fingers warm.

The trend began on the runways for fall, when a surprising number of designers, including Prada, Gucci and Chanel, showed gloves in luxury fabrics such as rabbit and alligator skin, and often paired them with the season’s most ladylike looks. Now, the trend has trickled down to accessories firms at all price points, and retailers are stocking up for the coming months. Other firms such as Coach, Carlos Falchi, Lambertson Truex, Agnelle and Sigerson Morrison also are offering fashionable gloves in a range of whimsical prints and styles. And the most recent round of fall advertisements is filled with all manner of gloves.

New York’s Henri Bendel and Add Accessories, as well as H&M are stocking up on the category for fall and holiday.

“We are definitely adding more gloves,” said Bobby Arang, owner of Add. “There are a lot of good styles out there now and it’s a hot category.”
