NEW YORK — Christina Aguilera is looking more like herself.

The provocative pop singer has signed on with Los Angeles-based footwear firm Skechers to appear in the company’s first international footwear ads. Unlike the Versace ads where she appears bleach blonde and washed out, for Skechers Aguilera is looking more street and less glam. She has more of an edge, sporting dark hair, makeup and fishnets — topped off with a pair of Skechers sneakers.

The campaign will appear in international issues of teen and fashion magazines, which will run throughout Canada, Japan and Europe, from October through December 2004.

The ads were shot by rock photographer Sheryl Nields, and were styled by Trish Summerville, who works with Aguilera regularly and has also styled Pink, Avril Lavigne, Ricky Martin and Mya.

“She’s one of the biggest pop stars in the world right now,” a spokeswoman for Skechers said. “She’s a great fit for the ads.”
