NEW YORK — Salvina Sultana, who directed the growth of European labels including Hugo Boss, Escada and Mondi in the U.S. over the past decade, is making her next step with a smaller, virtually unknown player.

AlidioMichelli, a luxury ready-to-wear company moving into its second season, named Sultana as president and chief executive officer this week. The collection is designed by Alison Miller, who will introduce her second collection on Monday in a new showroom at 1450 Broadway here.

“Meeting Alison Miller and seeing her first collection inspired me,” Sultana said. “I became excited about its potential for growth. I was presented with a tremendous challenge that I was eager to meet.”

Sultana was previously a senior vice president at Hugo Boss, where she introduced the Boss Hugo Boss women’s collection in the U.S., until resigning in April 2002, and was president and ceo of Mondi of America before that, until the company wound down its operations in 1999. She started at Escada as an assistant in its customer department and, over 15 years, rose to president of the label and corporate senior vice president of its parent company, Escada AG.
