A new focus is being placed on the Japanese runways, which open shortly after Paris closes. And while Tokyo Fashion Week has traditionally been known for its highly creative, avant-garde (read: out there) looks, many designers skewed increasingly commercial—and chic—for fall.
Tokyo delivered interesting outerwear, cool takes on men’s wear and asymmetric shapes; standouts included Mint Designs, Facetasm, Somarta and Lamarck. But fear not, there will always be the wild and wacky—Alice Auaa, DressCamp and Mikio Sakabe offered wonderful riffs on S&M, drum majorettes and jumbo ribbons, respectively. Get ready for more frequent-flier miles.
