When designing Ann Taylor’s holiday collection, creative director Lisa Axelson had two things in mind: clothes that could be worn from work to party, and a bit of her own personal nostalgia. “I really just thought of the reality that we are juggling at this time of the year, and I’m from the Pacific Northwest, so for me it always goes back to a little bit of rustic romance,” she said.
The result was a lineup of classic holiday pieces with a modern edge. Fair Isle sweaters were paired with leather pants, tweed skirts with moto jackets and a black-and-white brushed plaid coat was bonded to Neoprene.
“I was touched by the fact that she lost her father, really before his time, and it was a real shock. She had two young children, she was married and she was expecting that she would have her own life for a good 25 years,” said Claire Foy about playing a young Queen Elizabeth in Netflix’s The Crown.
