Anya Hindmarch had a romp through the 18th century — with all its lovable rogues and naughty lasses — for this collection of bags and accessories. There were tasseled clutches, evening bags shaped like fruit or fitted with images of ladies in pompadour wigs, and regal-looking boxy day bags with jaunty, colored shoulder straps. Before the show, the designer left little lavender books, filled with stick-on beauty marks, on every seat before turning the spotlight on a giant rotating carousel decorated with period pen-and-ink illustrations and moving parts. A rolltop desk opened and closed to reveal bags, fake mice scampered across the floor in front of illustrated cutouts of amorous couples playing footsie as eyeballs set into picture frames spied on one and all.
