NEW YORK — Elizabeth Arden announced Thursday that it has signed a global licensing agreement with romance novelist Danielle Steel.

Under the terms of the deal, Steel and Arden will develop a prestige fragrance brand using Steel's name that will bow in the U.S. in fall 2006. Financial terms were not disclosed.

"We are proud to be partnering with Danielle Steel," stated Paul West, president and chief operating officer of Elizabeth Arden. "She is recognized globally and Ms. Steel's image will be instrumental in creating the vision for the brand. She will be personally involved in all aspects of product development, bringing her elegance, ideas of romance and passionate personality to her signature line."

In a statement, Steel said, "This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce my readers to another dimension of my creative life. Fragrances represent so many of the aspects of life that my characters experience — commitment, love, emotion."
