MILAN -- Giorgio Armani confirmed reports Wednesday that he has talked with former GFT SpA managing director Clemente Signoroni about possibly joining Simint SpA, which manufactures the Armani jeans line.

Armani said that the talk was "informal" and requested by Signoroni. "I agreed to talk with him because I was impressed with his accomplishments at GFT," said Armani, adding, however, that he was not ready to make any appointments yet.

Signoroni could not be reached for comment.

Armani has stated in the past that he is seeking a professional manager for Simint, in which he owns a controlling stake.

Luca Ramella left Simint as managing director early this spring. Heading the company currently is its chairman Massimo Varazzani, who also is an executive of Sige, a Milan investment bank.

Signoroni was hired by GFT 10 months ago to spearhead its financial and industrial restructuring. He resigned last week, reportedly because he disagreed with the proposed acquisition of GFT by Plaid Clothing Group. Signoroni, however, has not disclosed his reason for leaving, and the company would only say that he had completed his restructuring tasks at GFT.
