LONDON — David and Victoria Beckham's departure for the U.S. doesn't mean a slump in the U.K.'s soccer style stakes.
Giorgio Armani has created a slick new off-field uniform for London's Chelsea F.C. players, which has been available for fans to buy through Emporio Armani stores in the U.K. since Friday.
Armani also overhauled the Chelsea's director's lounge using Armani Casa furnishings. The space will open this week.
"Chelsea F.C. has become known the world over for the quality of its game and the internationalism of its players who have become sporting icons," said Armani in a statement, adding the club's manager, José Mourinho, had creative input into the designs. "José was personally involved in reviewing all of the sketches and fabrics."
"Mr. Armani wanted to adopt a fresh approach to our suits," said Mourinho, in the statement.
The uniform includes a navy blue single-breasted suit, a Chelsea club tie, a blue cotton shirt, a mock crocodile-skin belt, brown suede half boots, a polo shirt with a coordinating knee-length cashmere formal coat and a nylon rain coat. Prices for the on-sale replicas start at 99 pounds, or $200 at current exchange, for a cotton shirt to 599 pounds, or $1,214, for a suit.
Chelsea players first appeared in their new attire at Sunday's game against Manchester United at London's Wembley stadium.

"It's really hard sometimes. I think I have a reputation for being really tough and aggressive and pushy but I really am a very shy person who wants to be liked, and that's the conflict constantly. There's something that takes hold - I want people to like me, I don't want to be mean - but if I see something that just cries out to be answered, I go for it," says renowned NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell.
