"A cigarette and a drink?" asked Michael Kors, who was getting jostled by camera crews in the ballroom of the Pierre Thursday night at The Fashion Group International's 15th Annual Night of Stars. "I feel like the young Bill Blass." Kors and several hundred members of the fashion establishment gathered to toast this year's honorees, labeled the "Individualists" by FGI. "He wrote 'I am stinking rich' inside the lining of a Rothschild's suit," said Chloe Sevigny to introduce Alexander McQueen. "And he cuts a wicked jacket and a shaggable dress." McQueen arrived at the podium giggling like a hyena. "Sorry. I'm a bit pissed," he squeaked. "It's sort of an English thing. But I'm not really that nasty; I'm really quite cuddly." Other award recipients included the Missoni family, Todd Oldham, Andree Putman, Julie Taymor, architect Michael Gabellini and Tiffany & Co. Last up were Cosmair chief Guy Peyrelongue and his wife, Lucile, who were honored with the superstar award. Joan Rivers handed them their crystal star. "I stand before you a testament to the Peyrelongues," said Rivers in her introduction. "I have bought so much BioFirm, I am responsible for 10 percent of their bottom line." The same evening in New York, at the Four Seasons, the real Bill Blass unrolled his list of the 50 most stylish people for the magazine Civilization, for which he recently was guest editor. Naturally, he was bound to ruffle a few feathers among his fashionable friends. Barbara Walters, for instance. Walters, who did not make the list, tried to figure out why Louise Grunwald did. "It must be the way she ties her scarf," said Walters during her toast. All evening, Blass held court in the corner of the restaurant as a steady stream of luminaries came to pay homage, including Brooke Astor, C.Z. Guest, Mary McFadden, Nina Griscom, Mica Ertegun and Oscar and Annette de la Renta. Meanwhile, Vince Vaughn and Janeane Garofalo were exchanging high fives during the premiere party of "Clay Pigeons" at Irving Plaza. Co-star Joaquin Phoenix was a bit less boisterous, huddling in a corner with girlfriend Liv Tyler.
