NEW YORK--Joseph E. Heid has resigned from the Sara Lee Corp. as a corporate senior vice president and chief executive officer of Sara Lee Personal Products (SLPP)-- North America and South America. He will officially leave the company June 30. The various executives within the personal products businesses who reported to Heid will now report directly to Donald Franceschini, who last week moved up from corporate executive vice president to vice chairman. Along with his corporate titles, Franceschini has overseen the personal products business since 1994. Heid, who is based in Winston-Salem, N.C., has reported to Franceschini. Heid plans "to pursue other professional interests and to manage his personal investments," according to a company memorandum. He could not be reached for comment. After joining Sara Lee in 1992 as president and chief executive officer of its Bali intimate apparel unit, Heid moved rapidly through the ranks. He was ceo of the SLPP--Pacific Rim and later became ceo of hosiery North America and South America. In January, he became ceo SLPP--North America and South America. Sara Lee's personal products group includes such business as Hanes Hosiery, L'eggs, Playtex, Bali, Champion, Coach Leatherware, Aris, Hanes underwear and Hanes Her Way.
