NEW YORK--Tiffany & Co. came in from the cold last Monday night. The main floor was the scene of a tropical cocktail party to promote the American Museum of Natural History's Winter Dance on March 7, which Tiffany's is sponsoring. The theme of this year's celebration is pearls of the South Seas, and a pearl-studded collection was unveiled for the evening. Models, posed in tropical sets, displayed the new pieces. Many women among the 350 guests continued the motif by wearing pearls. "Pearls are one of the purest forms of natural beauty," said William R. Chaney, Tiffany's chairman and chief executive officer. "The colors of Tahitian pearls and luster of South Sea pearls make them particularly glamorous." The dance will benefit the museum's ongoing scientific research and will take place in the Hall of Ocean Life.
