PARIS -- As part of its worldwide retail expansion, Prada opens a sizable store on Paris' Avenue Montaigne today. This two-level shop, measuring about 7,500 square feet, is Prada's 73rd freestanding wholly owned store in the world, and the company's second Paris location. The Montaigne shop features Prada's women's and men's fashions and accessories. Prada's first Paris store, which features only women's apparel, opened on Rue de Grenelle at the end of 1984. Passersby on Avenue Montaigne have wondered when the Prada store would actually open. A huge sign featuring the Prada logo had adorned the store's window for months, but a spokeswoman for the company said the opening is on-time as scheduled. For the spring-summer 1997 season, the firm expects to open freestanding stores in Bologna, Florence, Venice, Berlin, Munich and Vienna. The opening of Prada's New York store is coming at the end of next month, while store openings for San Francisco and Atlanta are also planned. Stores are also projected for London and Zurich sometime next year.
