NEW YORK--Federated Department Stores Inc. said Monday that James J. Amann has been named chairman and chief executive officer of two divisions, the systems group in Atlanta and the financial and credit services group based in Cincinnati. Lawrence E. Honig, who joined Federated in 1994 as president and ceo of the systems group, will be leaving "to pursue career opportunities outside of the company," Federated said. The changes, effective March 1, are aimed at better meeting evolving data management needs, the company said. The two operations will remain separate divisions of Federated. Amann has been president and ceo of Federated's financial and credit services since 1989. Amann will continue as chairman and ceo of FDS National Bank, which issues Federated's credit cards. James M. Zimmerman, Federated's president and chief operating officer, said in a statement that Amann brings to the systems group an "essential blend of expertise in both department store operations and systems development/data management." Zimmerman added, "The current phase of retail data management we will be undertaking within Federated requires particular emphasis on efficient and user-friendly systems. Amann began his career at Federated in 1964 as a programmer analyst in the Cincinnati corporate office.
