NEW YORK--Seeking new resources, Federated Department Stores launched its second vendor fair on Monday and expects to review 333 suppliers. None of the suppliers sell Federated. They were selected from the retailer's data base, which includes names of those who applied to Federated's first vendor fair in March. At that event, 536 suppliers were seen after being solicited through ads in trade publications. Many weren't seen due to the huge response. Of the 533 vendors at the March fair, 32 received orders from Federated. Federated has centralized operations to concentrate on key vendors and has narrowed its vendor list over the last few years. However, Terry Lundgren, chairman and chief executive officer of Federated Merchandising, in a statement described the event as a "one-on-one outreach to vendors intended to keep new ideas and new vendors in front of our merchants." Private label suppliers are excluded from the fairs. The fair runs through Thursday. and resumes Sept. 27- 29.
